Demerara sugar is inspired by a 17th century cultivation on the banks of what is now known as the River Demerara. Ever since, the sugar cane fields have proliferated across Guyana.
Demerara is a fruity, sweet-spiced sugar with large glistening, glassy amber crystals delivering a distinctive textural crunch. The Guyanese journey is inspired by the start of cultivation in the seventeenth century on the banks of a river that became known as the River Demerara. Ever since these times the sugar cane fields have proliferated across what is now modern day Guyana.
Traditionally used to complement coffee, Tate & Lyle Demerara Sugar is also perfect for adding an extra crunchy topping on crumbles, cakes and puddings as Unrefined Pure Cane Sugar.
